Explanations
Mr. President: Mr. President is a simple rhyming poem based off of our president's abuse of power. Specifically, the recent events of him allowing our border patrol to launch tear gas over the Mexican border upon many people including innocent women and children. Many people are outraged by this but I have yet to see true anger due to the poor fact that our society is apathetic to these things because of the Nationalism we posses for our country.
Inmates: This simple rhyming poem is a poem I believed was appropriate due to the current events and policy that took place within our school district. After the new safety policy was put into place, everything has felt sort of invasive. the school district now has us strictly labeled, watched by both administration and the police departments through cameras, along with frequent searches by law enforcement. As much as I, personally, have nothing to hide I still feel as if this is just a way for them to seize tighter control over the youth. This would be essential due to the fact that our generation has proved many times to have a very large and proud voice that is not afraid to speak out against 'big brother' in this day and age.
BIG BROTHER: this poem is an acrostic poem that I attempted to make a little less childish (Due to the fact that acrostic poems are often written by young school children). I based it around Edward Snowden so that he was writing a letter to the reader to warn them and try and justify his actions regardless to what the government claims to be right or wrong. Being a whistle blower, he becomes an enemy to the united states government. In my eyes, he opened many others. He may be a traitor but he showed us that the US government can and will do things outside of the public eye. Big Brother (NSA) is watching.
Real News Epitaph: This poem was an Epitaph. Epitaph's are short elegy poems that more than usually are written on Headstones in graveyards. With that being said, I wrote this poem to mourn the death of true and real news. In this day and age we live in a time where news outlets from every corner of the media will manipulate the stories and their consumer to get them to think the way they want them to think. "fake news." This is an abuse of power that up until recently was ignored. There are very few news outlets that are truly free of bias. The use of fake news can only divide our country more.
